Last week my mom, brother, Peter & I jetted off to our favorite state for a little rest, relaxation, and inspiration.
We adventured to the Northwest corner of the state ( just miles from Wyoming), then down through Rocky Mountain National Park, to Red Rocks Amphitheater for a night of Neil Young & Crazy Horse, and ended up in Denver, where I visited with the girls at Goldyn boutique.
We’re so lucky to have discovered Midnight Ranch; 3 perfectly rambling log homes at the end of 4 miles of gravel. We stayed in the Lodge Pine House, canoed in the trout lake and spent many hours sitting outside watching the hummingbirds.
The interiors of Midnight Ranch were equally enchanting. Cathedral ceilings and eclectic antiques gave this place so much personality. I fell in love!
Over an hour North of Steamboat Springs and 17 miles from the nearest ‘General Store’, we were literally at the end of the road… Which meant great riding, hiking, and exploring:

Above: mom is a cowgirl, peter's made for hiking, and the Columbine general store is the only place around for miles. And Below: some rest stops along the hike to gilpin lake.
After reluctantly leaving Midnight Ranch, we drove through the breathtaking Rocky Mountain National Park. With hairpin turns and precipitous narrow roads (sans guard rails), we took in insane views and ended up at the old Hotel Stanley (where Stephen King famously wrote The Shining), in Estes Park.
A day of hiking in Estes & then it was off to Boulder, where we had an awesome lunch at The Kitchen Next Door, and visited with Caroline, who bakes the most insane creations for Kim & Jake’s Cakes. Our Colorado getaway ended perfectly: Neil Young & Crazy Horse at The Red Rocks Ampitheatre and a visit to Goldyn in Denver. We shopped for Kathryn (in NYC manning the office), at the awesome Highlands Boutique, which just started carrying LFJ:
